This website: goldst.dev v2
After my previous version was somewhat of a failure, I recently decided to create a new version. While there is still a lot of work to be done, I am happy with the outcome so far!
The aim was to make a less glitchy version with a modern design that also works well on mobile. My old laptop still struggles with the new version from time to time, but all in all I think that the performance is good. I also wanted to be able to add texts to projects, to make it possible to write a few lines about what kind of stuff I do.
I did quite a few experiments with different kinds of mouse pointer behavior, but decided to not go with any of them due to usability concerns. Because they are nice nevertheless, I disabled them by default or published them as separate demos:
I used Remix to have server side rendering. Remix works very well for blog-like websites.
For the 3d avatar, I used Zdog. Zdog is not a full 3d engine like three.js (which I was considering to use too). That makes it much more performant, but also reduces the amount of possibilities.
I'm a big fan of GitHub pages, but because I am using Remix, I had to host it somewhere else. I found Vercel to be easy to set up.
